Murphy's addition to the campaign was first reported by the New York Times.
He joins the Trump campaign as it seeks to shore up its political operation and prepare for the general election showdown with Hillary Clinton. Wiley, Murphy's predecessor, split with the campaign after sources said he clashed with Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.
Murphy is currently a managing partner at JLM Consulting, and previously served as a senior adviser to Bob Dole's 1988 and 1996 presidential campaigns, according to the company's website. The Harvard grad also ran the RNC's Independent Expenditure campaign for the 2012 presidential cycle.
