The passenger train, which was carrying about 40 people, rammed into the rear of a cargo train that was stationary on the same track Sunday night, according to a release from Belgium's national railway.
The passenger train was traveling at a normal speed, said Fabrice Levaux of Belgium's Federal Police. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The number of people injured is unclear, Levaux said.
The incident occurred in the municipality of Saint-Georges-Sur-Meuse around 11:30 p.m. local time.
The driver of the passenger train was among those who died in the crash, according to local police.
